'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Desperately Seek News After Ski Resort Blaze
The loved ones of young people lost after a deadly fire at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for confirmed information and pleading for information about their family members online.
The inferno devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Confirmed footage reveal the ceiling igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the fatalities of the disaster, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. Authorities stated on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with the process continuing to name the remaining few.
In the interim, loved ones have been posting on the internet to appeal for information about their friends who were at the bar that night.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a horror. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she said.
She continued that some of his peers had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian government has said that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has said that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "young athlete who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the venue.
"A close friend told me they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his educators commented, "I've always been struck by his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great responsibility. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek nationality but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to sources.
Her sibling has published an urgent request online, saying the family has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are closely watching the situation.
